The existing tiled floor in Storteboom’s slaughterhouse in Kornhorn was in need of replacement. The new floor finish had to meet the strictest hygiene and safety standards and needed to be installed in a short space of time. This was the only way to avoid the unnecessary loss of valuable production time. Bolidt offered the best solution to both challenges. The application of the Bolidtop® 700 EM system meant that the existing tiled floor could remain in place. It took Bolidt three days to provide the Storteboom slaughterhouse with a pore-free and dirt-repellent synthetic flooring system that meets all the functional requirements.
2 Sisters Storteboom operates in ‘the World of Chicken’. The company is a division of 2 Sisters Food Group, which holds a leading international position in the European market for fresh and frozen chicken products.
The production sites of Storteboom include three slaughterhouses (two in the Netherlands, one in Poland)), two processing plants for the production and processing of filleted products as well as two further processing plants. Storteboom’s overall slaughtering capacity is about 3.5 million chickens a week.
Dedicated to the consistent supply of quality chicken products, 2 Sisters Storteboom works to high standards of hygiene and food safety. The poultry company has also adopted very strict standards in all aspects of its slaughterhouse operations. When the tiled floor in its Kornhorn slaughterhouse had to be replaced, it was clear from the start that the new flooring would have to meet the strictest quality requirements. In slaughterhouses, the flooring choice is a crucial factor in preventing diseases caused by unsanitary conditions and infection. Dirt and bacteria should not be able to settle in the floor. The flooring system also plays an important role in achieving a safe working environment.
Storteboom chose Bolidt because it knows ‘the World of Chicken’ inside and out. By supplying high-quality synthetic flooring systems, Bolidt has built a reliable international reputation with companies throughout the poultry supply chain. The Bolidtop® 700 system turned out to be the best solution for the Kornhorn slaughterhouse.
This synthetic floor finish has proved itself in many applications across the industry and meets the highest quality requirements in terms of hygiene and safety. The Bolidtop® 700 system has a pore-free, dirt-repellent surface and a seamless finish, which gives dirt and bacteria no place to hide.
Floors in slaughterhouses are subjected to high stress every day and the one in the Kornhorn slaughterhouse is no exception. Not only does it have to withstand heavy forklift traffic, but also the animal waste, blood, fat and other by-products that end up on the floor during the slaughter process. At the same time, operations take place at high temperatures. The Bolidtop® 700 system can withstand these harsh conditions. The floor finish is extremely pressure, shock, impact and wear resistant and lasts for decades, even when subjected to high stress.
Storteboom also had requirements regarding the slip resistance of the floor: with all kinds of fluids on the floor, it was not allowed to become slippery. Additionally, the floor had to be easy to clean. Here too, Bolidt offered the best solution. Because the Bolidtop® 700 system is resistant to high pressure cleaning and chemicals, the floor can be easily cleaned and disinfected. Another major advantage of the floor is that its surface offers excellent slip resistance, even when wet. This prevents the risk of employees having unpleasant slips.
Storteboom needed the new flooring to be installed within the shortest time possible. The company did not want to lose any more valuable production time than absolutely necessary. Removing the existing tiled floor would, in contrast, be time consuming and shut down operations. Bolidt recommended installing the Bolidtop® 700 EM system. Thanks to this special version of the Bolidtop® 700 system, the old tiled floor did not need to be removed. Instead, the tiled floor was first levelled by Bolidt with a synthetic compound specially developed for this purpose. The result: production at the Storteboom slaughterhouse only had to be interrupted for three days. In that short time, Bolidt’s application teams worked day and night to provide the entire slaughterhouse with new synthetic flooring that Storteboom will not have to worry about for years to come. In addition to the Bolidtop® 700 system meeting Storteboom’s functional requirements, Bolidt was thus able to adapt to the demanding time constraints under which the new flooring had to be installed.
