The latest addition to the Holland American Line is MS Koningsdam, built by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri. The 99,500 tonne vessel accommodates 2,650 guests. Bolidt added to the glamour of this ship by providing its innovative Bolideck® Future Teak for the exterior decking. A part of the decking is in the traditional colour, another in a stately grey as requested by the design agency Yran & Storbraaten.
MS Koningsdam debuts several innovative concepts, new public spaces and venues. Among its 1,331 guest accommodations, the ship features HAL’s first purpose-built staterooms for families and solo travellers. Guests are presented an array of fine dining options, including the new concept Grand Dutch Café, offering traditional Dutch delicacies and a selection of European beers.
On-board entertainment has also been elevated to a new level in the ship’s lively Music Walk, offering a musical experience for every taste. The Lincoln Center Stage presents a chamber music concert each evening, in the Billboard Onboard venue live performers whip up the audience with chart toppers from the hit parade, and the popular B.B. King's Blues Club in the Queen’s Lounge brings the best of Memphis music to the sea. At the World Stage, with its 270-degree LED screen and original show concepts, the audience is immersed in stunning panoramic visuals and sound.
Bolidt has been working with Holland America Line since the 1990s and has fitted a number of its ships, like the Westendam, Rijndam, Veendam and Rotterdam, with Bolideck® marine decking. The ship designers chose Bolideck® Future Teak for both functional and aesthetic reasons. Unlike traditional decking materials like teak, no trees need to be chopped to produce Bolideck® Future Teak. What’s more, Bolideck® Future Teak is lightweight, helping to reduce the ship’s fuel consumption. The decking system is low maintenance, and its slip resistance and cooler feel under the sun are benefits that will be especially appreciated by the guests.
Although most decks are fitted using the traditional wood pattern, an endless variety of deck finishes can be achieved with the designs and colours offered by Bolideck® Future Teak.
The choice of grey Bolideck® Future Teak for the exterior decking by ship designer Yran & Storbraaten is original, and it beautifully complements the signature style of MS Koningsdam. The ship will depart from Amsterdam to sail a series of northern European and Baltic cruises before returning to the Mediterranean. MS Koningsdam will head across the Atlantic Ocean to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where it will dock at its home port of Port Everglades and spend the season cruising the Caribbean.
